Notes for contributors For all non-humanities contributions in the form of original research papers, review articles, clinical case histories or series, short communications and letters are invited. For humanities contributions in any form including fictional work are acceptable. All contributions are scrutinised and refereed. Submissions are accepted on the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere and that they are subject to editorial revision. All material published is the copyright of The Peer Review Journal (PRJ). Format Manuscripts should be single spaced except adjacent to figures, table or equations, A4 (not US letter), not numbered and be 12pt times new roman and justified. Articles should be submitted to the editor (prjeditor@gmail.com) in electronic format as an e mail attachment, and should be in Microsoft word 2002 format. Page margins should be top 25mm, bottom 30mm, left 25mm, and right 20mm. Main headings should be bold 12pt capital and subheadings should be 12pt upper and lower case letters. A blank line should appear before each main heading and each subheading, and after a main heading but not after a subheading. There should be no blank lines between paragraphs. All abbreviations should be spelt out in full the first time they are used in the text. Medicines should be referred to by the generic name, followed by the proprietary name and manufacturer in brackets when first mentioned; e.g. fenbendazole (Panacur; Hoechst). Papers Each article should have the following structure: title, names of authors and affiliations, declaration, abstract and keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, acknowledgements, references. The title should be bold 12pt capitals and be centrally aligned and a maximum of 15 letters. Authors and affiliations should be 12pt upper and lower case letters and be centrally aligned. At the start the following declaration should be adopted after the author names ; Objective (max 30 words), Time scale and design (max 20 words), Relevance (max 30 words), Previous practice or theory(max 30 words), Change to existing practice or theory ( max 30 words), Claim(max 30 words), Authors impact claim( self grade 1 to 5). In general articles should aim to provide the objective, study design, sample population, methods and materials, results, new information, latest comparative information, relevance, claim and declaration. Clinical papers or case reports should follow a similar overall arrangement, modified appropriately. The text should be as concise as possible and the whole length should not exceed 4000 words. Please also supply five keywords to accompany the paper. Short communications Preliminary accounts of work and short clinical reports for publication as short communications should follow a similar format to papers but should exclude a summary and separate subheadings. The title should be no more than 10 words in length, the text should not exceed 750 words and only one or two figures and/or tables should be included. Please also supply five keywords to accompany the short communication. Tables and illustrations Tables should be kept to a minimum. The legend should clearly explain what data the table is presenting without the need to refer back to the text. Tables should not duplicate information presented in the figures.
References In the text references should be cited as follows: Smith (1995) described…/…recorded earlier (Brown and Jones 1994, Smith and others 1997). Lists of references should be given in date order in the text but alphabetically in the reference list. In the reference list all authors’ names and initials should be given followed by the date, title of the paper, full title of the journal, volume number and full page range, e.g. SMITH, A. B., JONES, C. D. & BROWN, E. F. (1995) How to list your references. VetPRJ 158, 91-96. Book references should include the chapter title if appropriate, the full title of the book, the edition, the editors, the town of publication, publisher and page numbers of material referred to, e.g. SMITH A. Humanities As this section can have many interpretations the editorial board have left it open to any type of submission from ‘scientific type’ article of relevance to fiction including stories and poetry. Scrutinisers are looking for quality original work. Any submissions for this section must first inform editor by e mail the length in number of words before submissions as a normal limit of 5000 will be applied , but this is negotiable.
Measurements Measurements should be expressed in the metric system or in SI units. Temperatures should be given in ¼ C. Centrifugation speeds should be given in g. Ethics Papers may be rejected on ethical grounds if the severity of the experimental procedure does not appear to be justified by the value of the work presented. Comments, reviews, replies at end of each article Readers and peers will be encouraged to write letters in reply to articles published.
Fees for submissions All submissions must include payment of €65 to cover running costs and scrutiny fee. Letters will be charged at €35, but letters that are a comment or reply to published work in the PRJ are free. Fees are payable online with credit card using paypal. All fees are payable at time of submission. |
